Syleafid (Japanese: リーテイル / Leatail) is a dual-type Grass/Flying Pokémon, and is one of the original Fakemon created for Pokémon Altair, Sirius and Vega.
It evolves from Leafrond starting at level 34. It is the final form of Nimbleaf.
Syleafid is the Glass Cannon of the three starters, thanks to its high speed and offensive potential, at the cost its own bulk.
Defensively, Syleafid's frailty really shows. Mediocre defenses alongside a shoddy defensive typing really cements its aforementioned status. However, Thick Fat is an amazing ability for Syleafid, hampering its Fire and Ice-type weaknesses to neutral and 2x, respectively.
Offensively, Syleafid is respectable in both departments of Physical and Special, although there is more emphasis on the latter. Syleafid is no slouch when it comes to having strong STAB, having numerous options such as Typhoon, Air Slash, Wild Growth, Rapid Growth, Wood Hammer, and Brave Bird. The Sprout Pokémon has plentiful coverage against many counters and checks, sporting numerous gems such as Sandblast, Hydro Pump, Focus Blast, Extrasensory, Dragon Beat, Devastate, et al. Finally, Syleafid highlights its offensive capabilities well thanks to access of the coveted Swords Dance and Nasty Plot, Agility, and even Growth for mixed sets.
Now the final con of Syleafid: Competition. The devs really know how to design powerful Grass-types, and although Syleafid is easily a contender, there are others that may fulfill its offensive roles better, such as Strawna (lower bulk and less coverage, but access to Quiver Dance ), Serplant (the most versatile Grass-type in the Region), and of course, Basilux. (the most powerful Grass-type in the Region)
Nevertheless, Syleafid is still excellent thanks to its exceptional speed, offensive potential, and wide variety of moves. When trained and played correctly, this Pokémon can sweep a team with ease.
In Procyon and Deneb, Syleafid will be even better, thanks to access to new moves in its arsenal. Most notably, Syleafid will have a signature Flying-type move known as だいせんぷう (Daisenpū, lit. "Great Whirlwind"), which always scores a critical hit.
