Houndoom (Japanese: ヘルガー / Hellgar) is a dual-type Dark/Fire Pokémon, and is one of the official Pokémon featured in Pokémon Vega.

It evolves from Houndour starting at level 24.

Overview[]

Once it made its debut in Generation II, Houndoom broke the mold for being a Fire-type with both a respectable stat distribution and a decent movepool . However, the hellhound has always been hampered by relatively late availability, and taking quite a while to get good STAB moves. Thankfully, neither of those problems exist in Vega. Having a STAB priority Special move in Dark Roar, early access to the Heat Wave TM, and an excellent coverage move in Discharge, entices many Trainers to utilize Houndoom.

Although there are other powerful Fire-types and Dark-types in the game, Houndoom's typing and combination of good Special Attack and Speed at a relatively early evolution level definitely make the hellhound worthy of consideration.
