Overview[]

Being blessed with the coveted Nasty Plot, and possessing excellent coverage options similar to Electivire, such as Energy Ball, Focus "Miss", Diamondblast, and Raze Earth, Magmortar is pretty versatile in battle. In a game where Stealth Rocks are not a thing helps Magmortar greatly. However, there are flaws for Magmortar. Its Speed is not the worst, but could have been better. It does face a fair amount of competition for a Fire Type slot (Unless if you play Vega Minus, where you can get Magby early on). Solarisen with its unresisted STAB combo and much higher Speed tier, Astignite's Defensive capabilities with a good Defensive typing to boot, Heatran's great durability and power in one lump size package. Not having Vital Spirit as a secondary ability hinders Magmortar greatly on taking a Spore or Deep Yawn consistently.

Overall, Magmortar is a solid versatile Pokemon that can do a lot of damage with its pretty versatile movepool, despite its rather ok Speed.
