Overview
Planning to invite a broken Pokémon to the party? Look no further, for Phantonate is here! Boasting an incredibly annoying typing, two extremely irritating abilities and moves that would put Wobbuffet to shame, the Spirit Pokémon is one tough customer.
Phantonate possess two of the most annoying abilities in the game - Wonder Guard leaves it open to attack from only Dark-Type moves and Shadow Tag prevents escaping, leaving an opponent susceptible to a STAB Explosion. Its Attack and Speed are its best stats with base 100 and 120 respectively. It's been regarded in the Vega community as the best trap/revenge killer in the game thanks to all the tools at its disposal.
Even broken Pokémon in Vega have some weak points. Phantonate's level up moveset is VERY shallow - only eight moves in total. To get the more desired moves, breeding and TM/HM/Move-Tutoring is necessary. Phantonate also has sub-par defences, meaning it can't use Perish Song to its fullest abilities.
The most annoying thing about Phantonate is actually catching it. It appears in the basement of the Chateau of Time (which is inescapable until the end or with the use of an Escape Rope) after the main story is complete. Its moveset comprises of Destiny Bond, Explosion, Memento and Perish Song meaning it has a 50% chance to knock itself out every turn. Its typing makes it immune to both False Swipe and Life Drain so it cannot be reliably knocked down to 1HP. Its catch rate is 15, the same as Volcarona. Depending on the ability it has, it can either prevent escape or only be damaged by Dark-Type moves, making it very tricky to lower its HP.
Be prepared for multiple run-ins with Phantonate and a lot of time trying to catch it.
